Activision has made the surprise announcement that the Carry Forward feature will not be returning for the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is set to launch on November 14 and looks to be a faithful entry in the long-running series. As usual, Call of Duty fans can expect Black Ops 7 to feature a story campaign, online multiplayer, and Zombies.

Unfortunately, the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 reveal hasn't gone as well as Activision may have hoped. The Black Ops 7 campaign trailer from Gamescom has been flooded with dislikes, and fans upset with the latest Black Ops 6 updates have expressed their concern that the new game will follow a similar path of adding cartoony crossover cosmetics that don't fit with the game's tone. Activision has acknowledged these concerns and announced that content from Black Ops 6 will not be available in Black Ops 7 as previously planned.

The Carry Forward feature, which lets players bring their skins and weapons from previous Call of Duty games to new entries, is not coming back for Black Ops 7. "Black Ops 7 needs to feel authentic to Call of Duty and its setting," Activision said. This means none of the Black Ops 6 Operators, skins, or weapons will be available in Black Ops 7. However, Double XP tokens and GobbleGums are excluded and will be carried forward to the new game. Black Ops 6 content will remain available to use in Call of Duty: Warzone, as this change only applies to Black Ops 7. "In Black Ops 7, bundles and items will be crafted to fit the Black Ops identity. We hear the feedback. We need to deliver a better balance toward the immersive, core Call of Duty experience."

Activision also addressed some of the other controversies plaguing Call of Duty as of late, like the ongoing cheater problems. Starting with Black Ops 7, PC players will have to enable Secure Boot and TPM 2.0, which will make it easier for Activision to "block cheats at the system level." Activision will also be introducing "new detection and mitigation systems" to kick cheaters "earlier and harder." Some of these anti-cheat capabilities will be tested during the Black Ops 7 open beta period.

The Black Ops 7 beta will start with an early access period on October 2, available to those that pre-order the game and anyone signed up for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate/PC Game Pass. Then, a proper Black Ops 7 open beta available to everyone will kick off on October 5. The Black Ops 7 beta will be live through October 8. Call of Duty fans can look forward to more information on the beta, the game's multiplayer functionality, and what Zombies is bringing to the table at the Call of Duty NEXT event on September 30.
